Get to Know Chief Jenkins

Mack Jenkins’ distinguished career in the criminal justice system spans four decades. As the former Chief Probation Officer for San Diego County, he led a department of over 1,300 staff, overseeing supervision and services for more than 13,000 adults and 2,500 youth. Jenkins is renowned for his expertise in evidence-based practices for community supervision. He has implemented specialized programs for individuals convicted of domestic violence and sex offenses, as well as managed reentry programs for youth.

With over 25 years of experience in treatment courts, Jenkins has worked with individuals facing substance use disorders, mental illness, impaired driving convictions, and military veterans. During his tenure in San Diego, he chaired both the San Diego County Community Corrections Partnership and the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council. He has also served on several national boards, including the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and the Council of State Governments Justice Center.

Currently, Jenkins is a gubernatorial appointee to the California Council on Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health (CCJBH) and a legislative appointee to the California Prison Industry Authority Board (CALPIA). He is a past president of the California Chief Probation Officers Association (CPOC) and a past Vice President of the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA).

In addition to his leadership roles, Jenkins is an adjunct instructor in criminal justice and serves as Vice President of the Justice Speakers Institute (JSI), providing training and consulting services to criminal justice professionals nationwide. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of California, Irvine, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach.
